I will take this opportunity to thank all Training Officers and instructors who have contributed to NRC 2007 in every way, big and small. Special mention must go to the drill competition initiated by CI Joey and turned into reality by all instructors. Last but not least, I offer my congratulations to all cadets (see above) whose efforts were recognised during the Award & Promotion Ceremony held as part of NRC 2007.

Announcements & Reminders (10 - 16 September 2007)
1. Weekly Training (12 September 2007, Wednesday)
Secondary 1 to 3 cadets, please fall-in at 2.30pm dressed in full uniform. This session will end at 6.00pm.
2. Campcraft Training (14 September 2007, Friday)
Cadets who are involved, please fall-in at 2.30pm dressed in your campcraft kit. This session will end around 6.30pm.
3. Your Academic Performances Matter
Whenever we (your NPCC officers and instructors) plan an activity for individual squads or the entire unit, its overall impact on your academic performances is one of many important factors that we have to consider. I have told CI Macrina that "we cannot request for a SECOND attempt of any EOY examination for our cadets, but we can always schedule MORE training sessions after the entire round of examinations". This actually means that we will not be organising any NPCC-related activity and training from Term 4 Week 3 onwards. On the other hand, it is likely for all CCA activites (including NPCC) to resume as early as Term 4 Week 5.
It also means that we will always expect you to begin your EOY revision as early as possible. Remember, you are doing our unit proud by doing as well as you can in your studies. After all, NPCC is about nurturing all-rounded cadets who will do their best in all areas of their lives.
Happy mugging then, especially our Secondary 4 & 5 members!
Regards

[Edited] Announcements & Reminders (3 - 9 September 2007)
You may pick up consent forms for the training sessions held this week from my pigeonhole.
1. Campcraft Training
The abovemention training will take place on the following days:
5 August, Wednesday (1.30pm - 4.30pm)
6 August, Thursday (1.30pm - 4.30pm)
8 August, Saturday (8.30am - 12.30pm)
Cadets who are involved, please fall-in dressed in your campcraft kit.
2. Weekly Training (7 September 2007, Friday)
Secondary 1 to 3 cadets, please fall-in at 1.30pm dressed in mufti. This session will end around 4.30pm.
3. The definition of mufti
We all know that mufti is the less formal version of the Full Uniform (or Full-U) worn by NPCC cadets:
Unit T-shirt
Uniform pants/skirt
Belt
Long black Socks
Plain white shoes
However, according to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, mufti are ordinary clothes worn by people who usually wear uniforms, especially soldiers. Hmm, so different!

A condolence letter, in memory of Gabriel of 4 Sincerity '07
Gabriel, like all of us, is a member of a Uniformed Group, the Scouts. We are deeply saddened to hear the news about his passing on 24 August. Besides remembering him fondly, our thoughts are also with you during this difficult time. He was a cheerful and supportive person to be around. We will miss seeing him on campus.
We remember the time when Gabriel kindly rendered his assistance to our preparations to host visitors from Liaoning Province Experimental School a year ago, in August 2006. His reassuring presence enabled us to hold an incident-free event.
We know you will miss Gabriel greatly. During this difficult time, we know you will draw upon your own strength and the strength of loved ones that hold you in their thoughts. You have our deepest sympathy. Remember, H.I.H.S. is filled with people who care about you and are thinking about you in this difficult time of sorrow.
Holding you in our thoughts

Our success on 18 August 2007
2nd place, Inter-unit Captain's Ball Competition organised by East View Secondary School
Team Members: Daniel, Eugene, Jin Hao, Kai Xin, Nigel, Shao Kiat, Shirley & Woei Jiun
This means that the Number 1 position has eluded us once again...so we'll just have to try HARDER next time!
Last but not least, we're proving to be an NPCC Captain's Ball powerhouse in the region (Area 7) and country. My not-so-humble opinion, of course! :P

OC Junior~
Yes. As some of you have already known that OC Junior is born already. Both Mrs Chang and baby are healthy and having a good time at home. I only managed to show the photos to some of my teaching classes. Here are two to share.
Btw, he's called Hongli (Hanyu Pinyin) and reaching his 1st month soon.

National Day
National Day has always been important to all of us in one way or another. This is especially for those who have a chance to participate in the school's parade. The TOs, CIs and SNCOs had been there to see your progress in drill standards for every rehearsal and the actual parade.
The Guards-of-Honour contingent will be rotated among other UGs from this year onwards to signify that you are all HIHS students regardless of which UG. This year, the St. John G.O.H. contingent has performed with good standards, no lower than ours in previous years. Nevertheless, NPCC cadets took up other important roles such as the flag bearer i/c and left/right salute markers. And most importantly, our contingent has shown that they are capable of G.O.H. standards.
Things to look out for:
- There will be one more parade this year which will be the Passing-out-Parade. Arms drill is expected so be prepared to do your best.
- The bi-annual Campcraft competition will be held next year. If I didn't remember wrongly, we got into top twenties in 2006. So that is our target, to acheive top twenty and above in 2008. Keeping that in mind, I have extended the service of CI Joey Pear, allowing him to train you in what he is best at.

Our Formation Sign
This is our unit's formation sign. It was created by Training Officers Ag ASP Chang Jee Yen and INSP Raymond Yeo with the aim of developing the quality RESILIENCE in every HIHS NPCC member.
Sky blue was chosen to be the colour of the banner as it is the school colour of HIHS. The number "7" indicates that we are from Area 7. The outline of a blade symbolises the Ceremonial Sword wielded by select members of the NPCC family. The target comprises 4 concentric circles representing the core values of the unit. Sky blue symbolises COMPOSURE (Secondary 4 & 5), red PASSION (Secondary 3), yellow PROACTIVITY (Secondary 2), and orange FRIENDSHIP (Secondary 1). The 4 concentric circles form the target, thus symbolising TEAMWORK.
Last but not least, the sign emphasises that every HIHS NPCC member has what it takes to become a capable and responsible leader who can aim (plan) and shoot (execute tasks) well.

Announcements & Reminders (Term 1 Week 4)
1. Another tribute by our Officer Commanding
Our OC Mr. Chang has "caught the PowerPoint bug" from me, and will be showcasing a series of PPT slides he has created on the school TV messaging system from next Monday. Look out for his tribute and more to come from your Cadet Inspectors as well as Mr. Suhaimi!
2. A warm welcome to our Secondary 1 members
It was great to see all of you yesterday. I'm pretty sure your seniors worked hard at making you feel "at home", despite the cold and long (not really, in my opinion) day. They'll continue to do so next week, demonstrating the spirit I mentioned when I spoke to you before dismissal.
And yes, let's hope for sunny weather on 2 February. :)
3. Briefing on standardized procedures for weekly training
Mr. Suhaimi or I will be speaking to all cadets as well as officers regarding the above-mentioned procedures in early February. Our 30-minute briefing covers several aspects of weekly training, including attendance and dismissal times. Letters that summarise the points covered in this briefing will be issued to everyone on the very same day. They are meant for the eyes of your parents or guardians too.
