Ideally, your NPCC experience should make you a better student.
Like Mr. Chang, I'm not tolerant of cadets who are very disciplined and motivated when they turn up for NPCC activities, but adopt a (very) poor attitude towards other aspects of schooling.
What "scares" me the most is the fact that some of these cadets are appointment holders.
As mentioned by Mr. Chang, your Officers do keep tabs on the disciplinary record of every single cadet. In addition, I believe I've spoken to the different squads regarding this issue about a month ago.
Perhaps some of you thought I was telling a (lame?) joke.
However, please believe me when I tell you this: You don't want me to speak to you personally about your poor image as a student of our school. If it were up to me, I'd speak to a Secondary One cadet (anyone) first.
And remember, you are also Singaporeans who have sworn your allegiance to the Republic of Singapore. This is no joke.

Behaviour of NPCC cadets
I'd like to remind you that regardless whether you're in NPCC uniform or not, you must behave as a respected person.
I've been receiving complaints from teachers that NPCC cadets do not know how to behave when not in NPCC uniform.
If any of you need to be in the NPCC uniform in order to behave properly, I will order two more sets of NPCC uniform and make you wear it everyday during lesson.
There should be no excuses even if it is just one teacher who complains about you.
Imagine a police going home in plain clothes who do not care when a robber commits a crime right in front of him.
If you do not behave properly when not in NPCC uniform, then you should not be fit to wear the NPCC uniform.
I have consistently recieved complaints about the same cadets over a period of time. I, together with TOs and CIs, will review these complaints with these cadets concerned. And we will decide the appropiate actions to be taken against them. The actions will be according to the rank of the cadet; the higher the rank, the more severe the actions will be.
There are cadets who are also outstanding in their behaviour when not in NPCC uniform. Excellent! CIs and TOs respect them as true members of NPCC.
Lastly everyone, good luck for your exams.

Resilience is our middle name
I've been up all night (I'm going straight to bed after posting this entry) and spent some time working on NPCC-related matters (it's true, believe me). Now, in my capacity as a Training Officer with our Unit, I would like to encourage the following groups of people (in no order of importance) to dig in and perservere:
1. Our team of Cadet Inspectors
The 'road' remains long...but you have an idea where we (the Unit) should be headed.
2. Our Secondary 3 NCOs
The 'road' becomes more bumpy, so you have to plan your 'route' and 'drive' carefully.
3. All cadets who have decided to dedicate themselves to NPCC once again
The 'road' is part of your personal journey; stay on it!
Last but not least, I look forward to seeing everyone during the next training session.
Rock on! xD

What it takes to be a Leader
I'm sure each of you know that the camp is to further develop and realize your potential in Leadership.
In last year's camp, I mentioned that being a Leader means
- able to decide which is best and NOT which is the easy way out,
- able to motivate yourself first before motivating others,
- able to stay alert so as to ensure everyone's welfare and safety.
This year, I will like to add some more but very crucial points to the list.
Being a Leader means
- being an Effective Leader. (Anyone can be a lousy leader)
- able to command people to do things by respect and NOT by threats
- able to tolerate others' weaknesses and NOT use their weaknesses against them,
- able to see and develop potentials in others and not be jealous of them,
- able to be proud and NOT haughty. (Basically means don't show off)
- able to empower (give power to) others and NOT yourself.
Most importantly, reading this list is easy but can you do them when you're a leader?
To date, many people have unfortunately failed to achieve point no. 6 which is also the most crucial.
But I have too seen a few cadets who emerged as effective Leaders. Hope that all of you will too.

Police Day Carnival
our Parent organisation, Singapore Police Force, will be hosting their annual carnival to celebrate Police Day. It will last 3 days from next friday to sunday, 9th to 11th Jun.
We, NPCC unit, will be purchasing the carnival coupons and attending their carnival to show our support.
Each squad will be purchasing 4 sets of coupons. $10 each.
TOs will be purchasing 4 sets as well.
Like every year, the carnival will be very enjoyable and this year I intend to enhance our support. There will be one-way bus to bring those interested there. It's like a free-and-easy outing for our unit where you can enjoy the carnival with your fellow cadets. You are free to roam about and need not report back to your NCOs nor CIs.
I have yet to decide on date. Most likely it will be the saturday morning.
Enjoy your holidays!

Station Inspectors of NPCC HIHS Unit 2006
I am glad to annonuce that on 19th April, Staff Sergeant Shenn Phua and Staff Sergeant Tan Jia Hao have been successfully interviewed by Area 7 Assistant Commandant to be promoted to Station Inspectors.
At any time, one NPCC unit is to have at most 2 Station Inspectors. Thus to be a Station Inspector, the cadet must have good performances in all areas and be an excellent role model for the rest of his or her fellow cadets.
Congratulations to both our new Station Inspectors and hope you will contribute even more to our unit!
A/Asp Chang Jee Yen.
